Plain language writing is clear, useful, and tells you just what you need to know. As a plain language writer, I can take big ideas and create messages that are easy-to-read. Plain language is a person-centered way to show that you (and your brand) care about your audience.

With plain language, you can:

  • use design to make it readable

  • build trust with your audience

  • respect people of all abilities and backgrounds

COVID vaccine fact sheet for Veterans’ Affairs

This plain language rewrite of the Pfizer vaccine fact sheet puts the most important information at the top, reorganizes for logical flow, eliminates jargon, and condenses from six to two pages without removing content. Click the picture for the before and after.

Health First Colorado app copydeck

The Health First Colorado app launched in August 2020. Every word in the app was written in plain language, with extensive user testing. Before the relaunch, the app was rated 3.2 in App Store and 3.4 in Google Play. Today, it’s rated 4.7 in both stores.
